Museum is housed in the 18th century mansion - rebuilt at the end of the 19th c - and in the 3.5 h. large park that where handed over to Maria Konopnicka as Gift from the Nation
on the occasion of the 25 anniversary of the creative work of the writer/poet. After her death until 1956 the mansion was inhabited by her daughters Laura Pytlińska and Zofia Mickiewiczowa. The museum came to life by decision of the Ministry of Culture and Arts in 1957 based on the donation deed of Mickiewiczowa and the other inheritors of the poet/writer. In 1991 the LAMUS Building was commissioned. It houses exhibits, rich library, administration office, work rooms and the collection storage rooms.

Collections
The museum collects authentic objects pertaining to the Polish literature of the 19th and 20th centuries, arts and related areas, history, ethnography as well as objects of the past époque used in the mansion. The literature collection consists mainly of books, periodicals, significant collection of Maria Konopnicka works (from the first prints to the contemporary editions) as well as scientific and popular studies on the poet/writer’s works from the 19th century until today.

The museum keeps also documents related to the poet/writer’s daughters – Laura Pytylińska and Zofia Mickiewiczowa – as well as documents related to life of people inhabiting the mansion before Maria Konopnicka.

One on the most precious exhibits are manuscripts of Konopnicka’s works From the Past, Dramatic Fragments (1879), With the Break-in (1892) and letters of the poet and another Polish 19th and 20th century writers: Eliza Orzeszkowa, Józef Ignacy Kraszewski, Stefan and Oktawia Żeromski, Stanisław Przybyszewski.

A unique collection of homage and honor diplomas, albums and donations she received on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of her creative work from miscellaneous associations, institutions and private individuals from Europe and America.


Moreover the museum houses:
- the largest in Poland collection of paintings of Maria Dulębianka, a fine Polish painter from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries who dwelled in the mansion together with Konopnicka between 1903 and 1910,
- one of the biggest in Poland collection of stylistic ink-stands and bottles and desk accessories from the 19th and 20th century,- original illustrations to Konopnicka’s works by well known Polish artists as: Jan Marcin Szancer, Bogdan Zieleniec, Józef Czerwinski, Leonia Janecka, Zofia Fijałkowska, Danuta Imielska, Wanda Burzyńska-Pazdowa and Stanisław Kaczor Batowski.
- large collection of the designer medals with images of writers and famous Polish women,
- collection of wood relief presenting various forms and shapes of the Polish eagle throughout different periods in the history of the state and the nation


Permanent exhibitions

Mansion
Collection of the jubilee (anniversary) gifts (“Pantry”, “Dark Room”, “Old Study Room”) - homage diplomas and gifts Konopnicka received on the occasion of the anniversary. The essential part of the collection consists of the dwelling space (“Study Room”, “Lobby”, “Dining Room”) arranged in the spirit of the époque. Periodically, visitors are let to see: “Credenza Room” and “Kitchen” as well as 2 rooms on the second floor: “Room” and “Study”, where the poet/writer’s friend Maria Dulębianka used to live and work.

LAMUS (old pantry)
Poleciały pieśni moje (Eng. My song have flown ) – biographical-literary exposition of the multi-directional work of Konopnicka which covers: poetry, children’s literature, novels and translation work from 5 languages (the English, German, French, Italian and Czech). One can admire here original editions of the poet’s works, re-prints throughout the literary periods, contemporary editions as well as manuscripts and documents related to Maria Konopnicka’s life and work.

LAMUS is also a place of temporary exhibitions, sessions, scientific symposiums, concerts, poetry and music evenings, intimate meetings with authors, book promotions and competition “Meetings with Maria Konopnicka’s works”.

HISTORIC PARK
The 3,5 hectare park is an integral part of the Museum. It has a lot of nature and scenic qualities. Beautiful setting, rich plant life, old and new trees make this place very attractive for tourists (about 30 thousand visitors per year). Due to these qualities a nature path was created in 2004 which runs through the entire area of the park. Visitors may also see here clearly marked spots commemorating important events and anniversaries in the life and work of Konopnicka: “Bust of Maria Konopnicka”, “Suwałki Rock”, “Medallion” and “Hillock”.
