Being a part of the Museum of Ukrainian Culture
in Svidnik, the gallery is housed in the 18th century Baroque
manor. It presents a development of the folk art and craft of
Ruthenians and Ukrainians from 16th century until today. The exposition
is composed of artifacts presenting in chronological order the
art of making icons in the period of the 16th -18th centuries.
It also presents works of the older and younger generations: I.
Kulec, P. Hromnyckyj, E. Bissova, O. Dubay, S. Hapak, M. Rogovsky,
I. Safranko, J. Kresila, A. Gaj, M. Cabala, M. Fedkovic, P. Michalic,
P. Kolisnyk and others. Founding fathers of the trans-Carpathian
painting school were Adalbert Erdelyi and Jozef Boksaj with whom
were connected and received assistance and directions local painters
from Slovakia.
The gallery presents works of founders of the trans-Carpathian
painting school as well as works of other known painters as: V.
Borecky, F. Manajl, A. Kocek connected to the trans-Carpathian
painting school. The focus of the gallery is the works of a local
painter Dezider Milly (1906-1971) – member of the Generation 1909
who became a prominent master of modern painting in Slovakia as
its co-founder. Characteristic features of Milly’s works are richness,
variety of techniques, masterly presentation of a simple man and
poetic atmosphere.
