Museum is located in a house adjoining the
church of Mother of God Queen of Poland and St Michael Archangel
of Michaelite priests.
In three rooms gathered are collections of photographs, miscellaneous
objects, printed material and other mementos related to life and
work of Father Bronisław Markiewicz.
The museum has been arranged based on the idea of Father Tadeusz
Stawiarski – a priest of the Congregation. On February 14th 1979,
the museum was consecrated by Archbishop Ignacy Tokarczuk.
Presented here are:
- photographs documenting life of the alumni
- paintings and personal belongings, books and brochures as well
as a room in which the Blessed Markiewicz lived for 14 years.
In the first rooms put on display are numerous photographs
documenting work of Father Markiewicz. Photos taken in 1911 show
Father Markiewicz surrounded by co-workers and alumni. Other photos
document the moment of his death and funeral (February 1st, 1912).
On the walls of the second room visitors see chasubles
in which the Blessed concelebrated Holy Sacrifice. Chasubles of
the Roman type of the post-Trident period, different from the
so called Gothic ones, used today. A display stand holds Father
Markiewicz’ personal belongings. In the corner of the room outside
the display stand one can see a flower pot base made of metal
– a name day gift from the local workshops.
The next display stand contains photos of Father
Markiewicz , his parents and siblings, miniature visitors’ book,
album, diploma, honors - Gold Cross granted to Father Markiewicz
by the Austrian-Hungarian Emperor Franz Josef in the Emperor’s
jubilee year as a recognition of Father Markiewicz’ social work.
The third display stand contains pos-mortem mask
(plaster cast) of his face made by Andrzej Lenik – an artist from
Krosno. Moreover, visitors can see a calendar with a date of his
death marked in it, a stole, a blessed candle, biretta, breviary,
bed sheet with traces of blood from the surgery performed in a
presbytery building as well as penitential belt made of wire worn
for some time by the Blessed Markiewicz to mortify his flesh.
The fourth display stand contains miscellaneous publications by
Father Markiewicz. One can also see here a confessional in which
Father Markiewicz received confessions. Moved from the church
it is clearly dated 1836.
The last room is the room in which Father Markiewicz
dwelled and often worked. Furniture consists of: bed, table, chairs,
wardrobes, shelving, pillow-case, towel, hook over wash hand-basin.
Additionally in the Museum visitors can see
mementos related to the Pope John Paul the 2nd who visited Miejsce
Piastowe on June 10th , 1997 and mementos related to Archbishop
Jan Chrapek – the first bishop from the congregation of St Michael
Archangel.
