Museum of Crafts in Krosno is housed in the old building of The First National Factory of Tower Clocks (1901 – 1938). The factory was owned by Michał Mięsowicz – outstanding citizen of the interwar Krosno, clock and watchmaker, recipient of many domestic and international exhibition awards. The biggest success of the factory was building a clock which was awarded the Gold Medal at the International Industrial Exhibition in Paris in 1908.

Permanent exhibition titled History of Craft of the South-eastern Poland consists of craftsmen documents dated from the 18th to the 20th century as well as products and craftsman’s tools, mainly from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Intention of this exhibition is to present the public rich tradition of the Krosno craftsmanship and to remind of people related to it.

In the Hall of archives displayed are documents that give a picture of the consecutive stages education of a craftsman, from an apprentice to the highest rank of a master. Collection tells about a structure and meaning of guilds and their influence onto functioning and living of the town. It also emphasizes wealth of the important group of the old craftsmen of Krosno. The Guild Counter – a spacious iron box made in the 17th century testifies to the strong position of the group amongst the fellow co-inhabitants of Krosno. It served as a safety deposit box for important documents, insignia and money. Especially valuable and precious is a 18th c. register book of the Tailors Guild of Krosno, so called “Register of the Deceased People”. It holds names of all craftsmen deceased since 1590.

Craft tools and products are here presented as several mini-workshops of shoe-making, saddle-making, carpentry and wood-carving, coopering, founding, clock-making, ironwork, blacksmithing, bee-keeping, millinery, tailoring, weaving, hairdressing and food making. The idea is that the museum wants visitors to experience a direct contact with exhibits. That is why the visitors can closely observe selected objects.

In the millinery workshop for example a visitor can try old hats sitting in an original pre-war chair from a hairdresser shop , or even try to make hairdo using original old sophisticated tools resembling pieces of torture equipment rather than beautifying tools. In the weaving section impressing is a 19th century weaving stand. One can also find here spinning wheels, linen processing tools, and weaving products reminding visitors of the former glamour the Krosno fabrics. In the clock-making section one can closely see a partially re-constructed mechanism of a tower clock, collection of old clocks and clock-making tools. There is also a re-created blacksmith shop of Michał Mięsowicz where heavier elements related to the clock mechanism making of the tower clocks were made.

Intimate mood and possibility of the direct contact with exhibits bring to the visitors a whole lot of unforgettable experience.

The adapted 16th century cellars of the building at Rynek 5 in Krosno house The Cellar Under the Arcades - temporary exhibition halls where expositions change several times a year. The same cellar of the building houses the Culture and Tourism Information Centre providing a detailed information on tourist attractions of the Beskid Niski and Pogórze. It also offers a variety of tourism oriented printed material and regional mementos and keepsakes.
